Cougars women's hockey head coach Tom Molloy believes physical, mental and tactical training are key elements in preparing his team for the start of the season. It appears that his approach has proven to be effective as the Cougars have won two Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) championship titles and lost in the finals twice in the previous four seasons. Born in Calgary, Molloy played Junior 'A' in the city before moving on to play college hockey at Bemidji State in Minnesota. After graduating, Molloy played one season of semi-professional hockey in the United States before returning to Calgary to pursue his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Calgary. Molloy taught in Calgary for 29 years. His extensive knowledge of the game is not only based on his personal playing experience, but his coaching and instructional know-how. Molloy was the assistant coach of the men's team at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and then moved into the head coach position for three years. He later joined the University of Calgary Dino men's hockey program for eight seasons which went on to win Canada West three of those years. After his term with the Dino's, he coached minor hockey where his teams won five championships in seven years. |
